Now
- I’m teaching two courses this Spring: a course on programming for students in the humanities (mostly grad students in History and English) and an absolutely anarchic course on Shakespeare.
- Working on another book. I’d call it Keywords of Computation if that weren’t (a) a bit of a cliché and (b) taken. But basically, it’s a bunch of philosophical/philological meditations on words like “bit,” “random,” “algorithm,” “program,” “interface,” and so on.
- Playing around with GNU Guile. I’ve known about Guile (an implementation of Scheme that is intended to be the “official” extension language of the GNU project) for a very long time. I hadn’t realized how many batteries are included or that Guix is maybe giving it a kind of new momentum.
- Dipping my toe in software defined radio. So far, I’m finding that the hardest thing about SDR is explaining to friends and loved ones why you don’t just, um, turn on a radio.
